Pelajar MMU juga mahu skrol bentuk kertas

Today there’s one entry in the Utusan Malaysia forum, entitled Pelajar MMU juga mahu skrol bentuk kertas:

Saudara Pengarang,
SAYA pelajar tahun akhir Multimedia Universiti (MMU) ingin menyuarakan kebimbangan saya kerana MMU tidak menganugerahkan skrol berbentuk kertas, tetapi berbentuk CD.

Saya amat berharap Presiden MMU, Prof Datuk Dr. Ghauth Jasmon memahami keadaan pelajar apabila melalui proses temu duga.

– PELAJAR, Ampang, Selangor.

Simply translated, the final year student is expressing his fears and is complaining that MMU is only giving away graduation scrolls as CDs (Compact Discs). My oh my. Did he ever tried to ask the student affairs first?

Yes, MMU has been awarding graduates with digital scrolls, as well as paper scrolls since the first convocation.

I know there must be a lot other things that are below student expectations and satisfactions, but the final year student does not know this is just simply idiotic. And the person approving the letter to be published is not that great either. 😉 Especially since the editors never want to publish the REAL complaints!!

I know, there’s a lot of bad things in the ‘TM University’ as I was there since 1998 and had my convocation this year – 6th convocation.

My advice to the student – at least do a research before complaining.

Saya faham MMU melaksanakan konsep `tanpa kertas’ tetapi saya cadangkan MMU beri dua skrol, kertas dan CD. Saya amat berharap Presiden MMU, Prof Datuk Dr. Ghauth Jasmon memahami keadaan pelajar apabila melalui proses temu duga. Cadangkan? Memang dah macam tu dik!

Bukan apa, MMU pun memang banyak benda tak baik. Tapi kalau kita pegang skrol MMU, dan orang tak pandang skrol kita tu, apa jadi dengan nilai skrol tu? Fikirkanlah…

Prime Minister’s wife dies

Malaysia was shocked by the news of the departure of the First Lady, Datin Seri Endon Mahmood. She passed away at 7.55am this morning because of breast cancer. All of Malaysia would like to express condolences to the Prime Minister and family.

Sad day for Malaysia, indeed.

The rest of the world does not see this… hmmmmmm? There’s no IN SOA section for cyberjaya-ccc.com.my. How do I let them know? Calling them wouldn’t do it as they have non-technical imbecile answering the phone. 🙁

Oh! no wonder: Cyberjaya City Command Centre (A Unit of Majlis Perbandaran Sepang).

Public sector!

Setia Haruman Technologies

I didn’t stumbled onto this website, but I needed info from them as I tried to email them lots of time with no replies:

shtech.png

Surf the web with City Broadband, Cyberjaya’s premier internet service provider.

When you click on more

shtech2.png

There’s no DNS entry for the domain!!!!!

This top notch service is provided by Setia Haruman Technologies, a subsidiary of Setia Haruman. And people in Cyberview Gardens, Cyberview Lodge, D’Melor – all tied up. Streamyx can’t penetrate the buildings since they are all governed by Setia Haruman. Talk about monopoly huh?! I’m not sure about Cyberia.

Again, on this page http://www.shtech.com.my/services.htm you’ll see a link to City Broadband, and it seems that it is the only business of SHTECH. Not something shocking since they charce ~RM500 for 256kbps connections.

And… how would you enjoy a website like this. Childish and idiotic phrase "16 August 2005 – New website is up. Hope you enjoy it" is beyond my understanding.

Setia Haruman site:

"The City Command Centre (CCC) acts as a Central Monitoring Hub to monitor, manage and implement key services. Basically, all of the city’s management system is integrated into one centre. Therefore, residents will not have to deal with long list of bureaucratic units.

The Backbone of the Future

CCC is the ‘brain’ of the city, providing single management of traffic, utilities, community facilities, municipal services and public amenities through a seamless integration of systems and services:

Advanced Traffic Management – The traffic flow will be coordinated through an Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) to ensure smooth traffic flow. The network of roads will be constantly monitored for fast response to emergency situations. Other monitoring systems set in place include the Global Positioning System (GPS) which will track the public transportation to provide timely information for commuters, while the Geographical Information System (GIS) will provide up-to-date digital maps of the city for easy planning.

Integrated Utilities Management – By centralising the source of information on various utilities, the CCC offers a convenience to residents that will soon become the norm in the city. For example, the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system will allow effective coordination and management of billing, fault reporting, maintenance and monitoring of all services.

Interactive Community Services – The CCC enables a range of services to be provided, enhancing the lifestyles of the city’s residents. The range of services cover aspects such as city services, education, health, security and entertainment, making living in Cyberjaya a more enjoyable and stress free experience.

Municipal and Public Amenities – The municipal’s range of services will be online, whereby the public can provide feedback such as suggestions, ideas and complaints. Residents will be able to access a variety of information from their homes or offices via the Web.

The CCC can be accessed via a variety of ways:

  • Customer Service Counter at the CCC building
  • Telephone service and interactive voice response (IVR) system
  • Interactive television and personal computers at home and office
  • Mobile data terminals and kiosks at public areas

For more information, please visit http://www.cyberjaya.com.my"

Today is the 18th of October 2005. If anybody can show me at least one working kiosk in Cyberjaya, I’m willing to treat that person for dim-sum in Cyberjaya (which is not cheap).

The CCC looks dead. Intelligent City? I beg to differ. Nobody cares about Cyberjaya. Makan gaji buta. 🙁

I want one!

Lately I have an eye for SE phones… Sony Ericsson k750i, or Sony Ericsson W800. These two siblings are the exact same hardware, with difference in the software (and perhaps some accessories). W800 can behave like a Walkman, without switching the phone on. Tres cool!

W800 is great but looks kind of funky, and k750i looks professional. I am unsure which one I like better. For sure, W800 costs ~RM200.00 more.

Naah not gonna buy any of them. I just like them. 😉 Not the time yet.

Nov 2 will not be a public holiday

Well it looks like 2nd November will not be a public holiday. Many were expecting this.

Excerpt from The Star:

"KUALA LUMPUR: The Government does not plan to declare Nov 2 a public holiday.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said it would be too costly for the private sector to pay their employees to work on that day."

Excerpt from Utusan Malaysia Online:

The bold text is the best part. 😉 Translation: When it comes to salary you demand 13 months per year, no need to add more public holidays.

Very pedas indeed. It’s true. Government servants have enjoyed 13 month’s worth of salary per year and yet they failed to provide better service to the public. If you don’t like a private service, you can stop using them. But this case, you’ll still have to pay tax. Hmm…

Zakat!

Nowadays, there’s a lot of programmes in TV showing how poor citizens suffer. I wonder what the government have been doing with the BaitulMal money?

Here’s the total collection for September, taken from the Pusat Pungutan Zakat Wilayah Persekutuan website:

zakat-wilayah-sept.png

Hmmm… 8 million. Maybe PPZ officers need to go out, and not just rely on applications from poor citizens. Sometimes the old ladies taking care of 7 grandchildrens are not educated at all to know that such funds exist.
